Topor András - Magasabb szférák felé
A Franciaországba emigrált magyar származású művészek elhivatott újrafelfedezője, kutatója és képviselője június 20-án este 18:00 órai kezdettel Topor András művészetének szenteli a nyári kiállítási szezont a Kálmán Makláry Fine Arts Galériában.
Az 1997-ben elhunyt Topor András színekkel teli és szürreális képeit ritkán látni a művészeti piacon, a munkái tárlatokon is elvétve bukkannak fel, noha művei megtalálhatók magyar közgyűjteményekben, mint a Magyar Nemzeti Galéria, a Miskolci Képtár, a Damjanich János Múzeum és a Déry Múzeum kollekcióiban. A Kálmán Makláry Fine Arts Galéria mostani kiállításán az 1944-ben született alkotónak ezúttal közel harminc művét nézhetjük meg, melyek többségét eddig nem vagy alig láthatta a nagyközönség, hisz azok magángyűjtők birtokában vannak. Ez a hiánypótló tárlat bevezet minket Topor érzékfeletti világába, mely tematikai és stiláris sokszínűséget is mutat. A művész ráadásul a galéria tulajdonosára, Makláry Kálmánra is nagy hatással volt, mivel Topor művei mutatták meg neki először a képzőművészet erejét: „Anyai nagynéném férjét, a kiváló festőművész Topor Andrást kis koromban rendszeresen látogattuk a debreceni művésztelepen, azóta is ha belépek egy műterembe, és megérzem a terpentin és az olajfesték illatát, boldog gyermekkori érzések töltenek el.”
Rediscovering the Visionary World of András Topor
A devoted researcher, rediscoverer, and advocate of Hungarian-born artists who emigrated to France, Kálmán Makláry dedicates the summer exhibition season at the Kálmán Makláry Fine Arts Gallery to the artistic legacy of András Topor. The exhibition opens on 20 June at 6:00 PM and presents a rare opportunity to encounter the work of an artist whose unique visual universe has remained largely outside the focus of international and domestic attention.
Born in 1944 and passing away in 1997, András Topor created a body of work distinguished by its vivid colours, dreamlike imagery, and surreal atmosphere. His paintings appear only rarely on the art market, and exhibitions devoted to his work have been equally uncommon, despite the fact that his oeuvre is represented in major Hungarian public collections, including the Hungarian National Gallery, the Miskolc Gallery, the Damjanich János Museum, and the Déri Museum.
The present exhibition at the Kálmán Makláry Fine Arts Gallery brings together nearly thirty works by the artist, many of which have never before been shown publicly, or have only rarely been accessible to audiences, as they have remained in private collections. This long-awaited presentation offers an immersive encounter with Topor’s visionary realm, revealing the thematic richness and stylistic diversity of an oeuvre that continuously moves between imagination, symbolism, and the subconscious.
Topor’s artistic vision also holds a deeply personal significance for Kálmán Makláry himself. The artist’s work played a formative role in shaping Makláry’s lifelong relationship with art, introducing him at an early age to the transformative power of painting:
"As a child, I regularly visited my maternal aunt’s husband, the outstanding painter András Topor, at the artists’ colony in Debrecen. Ever since then, whenever I enter a studio and sense the scent of turpentine and oil paint, I am filled with the joyful memories of my childhood."
Through this exhibition, the Kálmán Makláry Fine Arts Gallery seeks not only to present a remarkable body of work, but also to restore András Topor’s rightful place within the broader narrative of twentieth-century Hungarian and European art.
