"... a decisive turning point came in the early 1970s, when one of the most prestigious galleries of the time, Galerie Claude Bernard — active in both Paris and New York — took him under its wing. This gallery represented artists such as Francis Bacon, Balthus, David Hockney, Alberto Giacometti and Leonardo Cremonini. Within this distinguished context, Csernus’s painting was renewed and took a clearly defined new direction. At this time, Csernus’s Parisian streetscapes, market scenes and studio interiors were typically executed in a photo-based, hyperrealist style, a painterly language that came to dominate almost the entirety of the 1970's. - Kalman Maklary
