Art and Antique Budapest 2026
Az Art and Antique művészeti vásár keretében, a Kalman Makláry Fine Arts Galéria standján 2026. február 26. és március 1. között különleges kiállítás várja a látogatókat, amely két meghatározó magángyűjteményt állít egymás mellé. A bemutató egyik súlypontját a Horn-gyűjtemény Sándorfi István-műveiből válogatott anyaga alkotja, míg a másik pólust Makláry Kálmán nemzetközi gyűjteményében őrzött Csernus Tibor-alkotások képviselik.
A stand koncepciója tudatos párbeszédre épül: Sándorfi és Csernus művei egymás mellett jelennek meg, érzékeltetve a technikai perfekció, a fegyelmezett festői gondolkodás és a radikális őszinteség közös alapállását, miközben világosan kirajzolódnak eltérő, mégis egymást erősítő művészi válaszaik. Sándorfi brutális intenzitású önarcképei, csendéletei és női portréi, valamint Csernus caravaggista korszakának meghatározó művei egyaránt azt a festői magatartást testesítik meg, amely a divatokkal szemben a nagy elődökkel folytatott párbeszédet és a mesterség határainak folyamatos újramérését tekinti alapvetésnek.
A válogatás két autonóm életműbe enged betekintést, amelyek a figurális festészet hagyományait következetesen ápolva tudatosan szembementek koruk uralkodó irányzataival, és művészetüket nem stílusként, hanem szellemi és etikai értelemben vett alkotói magatartásként értelmezték.
Mindkét gyűjtemény kiemelkedik nemzetközi karakterével: az anyag jelentős része hosszú időn át külföldi gyűjteményekben és galériákban volt jelen, és ma is szervesen kapcsolódik a nemzetközi és a magyar műkereskedelemhez. A Horn-gyűjtemény Sándorfi István munkásságának legjelentősebb, világszinten is jegyzett műveit fogja össze, míg Makláry Kálmán nemzetközi gyűjteményében Csernus Tibor életművének meghatározó kulcsdarabjai kaptak helyet.
A kiállítás az Art and Antique vásár közegében nem csupán ritkán látható főművek bemutatása, hanem egyúttal állásfoglalás is amellett, hogy a magyar figurális festészet legnagyobb teljesítményei szerves részét képezik az európai és a globális művészettörténeti diskurzusnak.
At the Art and Antique Budapest art fair, Kalman Makláry Fine Arts Gallery presents a distinguished exhibition from 26 February to 1 March 2026, bringing into dialogue two exceptional private collections and two defining voices of twentieth-century Hungarian figurative painting. The exhibition places a carefully curated selection of works by István Sándorfi from the Horn Collection in conversation with major works by Tibor Csernus from Kálmán Makláry’s internationally recognised collection.
Conceived as a dialogue between two distinct yet profoundly connected artistic visions, the presentation explores a shared devotion to painterly excellence, technical precision, and an uncompromising pursuit of authenticity. Through the juxtaposition of Sándorfi’s psychologically charged self-portraits, meticulously rendered still lifes, and enigmatic female figures with the significant works from Csernus’s celebrated Caravaggesque period, the exhibition reveals two artists whose practices were rooted not in the pursuit of artistic fashion, but in a continuous engagement with the great traditions of European painting.
Both Sándorfi and Csernus regarded painting as far more than a visual language or stylistic choice: for them, it represented an intellectual and ethical commitment. Their works demonstrate a profound belief in the enduring relevance of the figurative tradition, even as they challenged the prevailing artistic paradigms of their respective eras. A substantial part of the exhibited material has, over the decades, been represented in international collections and galleries, and continues to occupy a meaningful position within both the global and Hungarian art markets. The Horn Collection preserves some of the most outstanding and internationally acclaimed works from István Sándorfi’s oeuvre, while Kálmán Makláry’s collection brings together pivotal works that illuminate the artistic legacy and historical importance of Tibor Csernus.
Within the framework of the Art and Antique fair, this exhibition offers more than a rare encounter with exceptional masterpieces: it presents a compelling statement on the place of Hungarian figurative painting within the broader European and international art historical narrative.
