The experience of weightlessness, 1966

oil on canvas, 114 x 88 cm

"In 1965, he was involved in a car accident that resulted in a fractured right elbow. This accounts for the relatively small size of the work. He created the painting on a canvas laid on the floor while suffering from pain and wearing a cast on his arm. He applied the reduced black-and-white brushstrokes in this position, then turned the canvas upside down and left it to dry. After turning it back over, the paint that had slipped and sagged in places became visible, revealing the effects of gravity at work." - Peter Gimesy

"1965-ben autóbaleset szenvedett, melynek következtében eltörött jobb könyöke. Ez okozza a viszonylagosan kis méretet. A földre tett vásznat fájó, begipszelt karral készítette. A redukált fekete -  fehér vonásokat így vitte fel, majd a vásznat fejjel lefelé fordította és így hagyta megszáradni. Miután visszafordította láthatóvá vált a helyenként megcsúszott, megereszkedett festék és ezzel a gravitáció munkája." - Gimesy Péter
